NC Fall Fishing

Fall fishing is here the cooler night time temperatures,are putting the red drum in the feeding mode,yesterday fishing was hot with lot’s of fish caught in the 16″ to 17″ size,all were released,with a number of red drum in the 22″ to 24″ slot size.

Cape Fear Guide is reporting fishing action along the lower Cape Fear River is happening now,the bite is steadily improving with the cooler than normal temperatures.
This past week we had several weather fronts to pass through the Cape Fear Region causing the bite to be slowed, but that’s part of fishing.Red Drum,flounder,speckle trout,are being caught in the smaller creeks just off the river.
Capt.Mike Dennis offers some of the best hands on inshore guided charters in the Cape Fear Region,fishing on a weekly basis his charters are highly successful.

Danny Redman from Charlotte was on-board with the Cape Fear Guide today to do some inshore red drum fishing.The ride south on the Cape Fear River was smooth as glass making for a quick run to Buzzard Bay one of Capt.Mike’s favorite places to fish.
Every spot that we tried through out the day seemed to be holding a couple of really hard fight red drum,which made for a day of catching,which equals alot of fun,on the light spinning rods.

Carolina Beach,N.C.is a great place to live,for with the arrival of cooler fall temperatures,spurs the annual migrations and schooling of bait,finger mullets,this is what draws the king mackerel,close to our beaches,along with large flounders,that are being caught on our inshore artificial reefs.
I fished yesterday under Carolina blue skies,virtually no wind,just a perfect day to be out on the water,found a few large flounders biting,along with the grey trout.
This is the time of year you can just see the ocean, come alive with fish,from Spanish mackerel attacking mullet minnows on the surface,to king mackerel sky rocketing out of the water,now is the time to go fishing,and enjoy the beautiful fall weather. Inshore fishing charters are becoming quite popular in North Carolina,but in today’s economy some people still can’t afford to hire a guide by them selves.I am starting a list of names for which I will call, to try to help the fathers and sons that would like to go fishing team up with others to enjoy a day on the water.

I will need your name, phone number,whether you can fish on the weekends or any day during the week.
I base my charter times mainly on the tides, for the best bite will stay at one spot for a number of days,till the temperture,bait, or weather changes the conditions.
The six hour charter seems to work the best,fishing these tide times,so for you can expect to pay $200.00 for a split charter,hope this helps.

Specke Trout

Today is Tuesday 25,2009 speckle trout are biting for the Cape Fear Guide,the last three charters Capt.Mike has located these trout,they are not on fire yet,but it won’t be long before you will be able to catch your limit of these tasty fish. Red fish are still biting,best bite has been at low tide,but fish are being caught through out the tide just have to really move around to find them.

Red Drum & Speckle Trout

The last couple of days of Red Drum fishing was just as I predicted it would be hot ! I fished Monday & Tuesday of this week ,bringing home the legal slot limit of reds and releasing about 5 - 10 red drum a day for my charters,several of the red drum were in the 30 ” to 33″ size really hard fighting fish.

August has proven to be a great month to catch the red drum again this year,this week all charters have limited out on red drum,with lot’s of slot size red drum release.
Flounders are also being caught,finger mullet seems to be the best bait for the flounder along with a bucktail tipped with a mullet strip!
